Software is a collective name given to a set of instructions called programs that can be interpreted by the computer.

System – is a set of programs that manages the resources of a computer system
Application – programs that help the user to perform tasks
Operating system
A set of programs that controls the hardware and application programs that make up the computer system.
Functions
· Executes programs and prematurely terminates those programs that are not working properly.
· Allocates and schedules the resources of the computer
· Manages memory- os loads programs into memory and removes them when they are not in
use.
